Information on handling knives
The use of knives as weapons has led to an increase in violent crimes in many large cities. For this reason, as of April 1, 2008, the carrying of cutting and stabbing weapons as well as certain knives was prohibited under Section 42a of the Weapons Act. These specific knives include those with fixed blades that are longer than 12 cm, as well as all one-hand knives - regardless of their blade length.
However, it is not generally forbidden to carry knives if there is a legitimate interest. A legitimate interest can, for example, be related to the exercise of a profession, tradition, sport or a generally recognized purpose. This is about the appropriate use of knives, whether professionally or in leisure time, such as hiking, scouting, camping, fishing and hunting. Even taking them with you on a picnic is still permitted.
The aim of the legislator is to intervene only in risk groups if necessary. However, in the case of an administrative offence, no penalty will be imposed.
